On the 25th of March 2020, the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) implemented measures in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. These measures included the extension of deadlines that fell due within March 18 – April 30, 2020 to May 31, 2020. Further, OAPI remained operational, albeit with limited working hours from 08:30am – 1:30pm. These measures were subject to review depending on the evolution of the situation.
Upon the expiry of the deadline on May 31, OAPI reviewed the ongoing health situation and decided to further extend the deadlines that fall due between May 1 – 31st 2020 to July 15, 2020.
In this challenging and uncertain time, it is believed that OAPI has taken a step in the right direction.
